Launched for pre-order on the Décathlon website at the end of the year in its EDR CF Dura-Ace version, the new Van Rysel EDR CF (for EnDuRance) is arriving on the bike market. Lighter (140 g less in size M) and more powerful than the ULTRA, the new EDR CF is unveiled in a new range of eight models with disc and rim brakes, with mechanical shifting, including a specific version for women. Prices range from 1,750 € to 4,050 € depending on the build, available for pre-order now, with deliveries announced for May and July 2021.

It was in the Van Rysel design offices, at the Lille headquarters, in the heart of French Flanders, that the new EDR was developed and designed.

It was in the heart of French Flanders, in Lille, that the new EDR CF was conceived and assembled, joining the EDR AF (the aluminum version) in the VAN RYSEL collection. The Northern brand presents it as “a road bike that meets the demands of both amateur and professional sportive riders, who ride a lot, all year round, whatever the terrain”.

Announced as more sporty and sharper, the new Van Rysel EDR CF was designed and conceived to climb passes as well as to ride for several hours with one objective: performance.

The EDR CF is thus the latest addition to the Van Rysel family. From the Endurance range, this model is presented as “having been created to push the limits of performance”. And Van Rysel states that making “comfort”, “stiffness” and “lightness” rhyme was the leitmotif of the Northern engineering team during the two years of meticulous development and work on the creation of this new frame.

The Van Rysel EDR CF is thus presented as the 5th generation of carbon frame, with the frame made of high-modulus fibers, precisely arranged to combine strength and lightness.

Disc or rim brakes, the new Van Rysel EDR CF offers the choice to satisfy all tastes.

Presented as lighter, stiffer, and more compact, the new EDR CF chassis boasts 18% greater stiffness, 5mm less compactness (measured at the top tube on a size M), and a 10% weight reduction with a weight of 890 grams (frame, fork, seatpost, seat clamp) compared to its ULTRA predecessor (140g less announced).

Despite the EDR designation for EnDuRance, the new EDR range indeed constitutes the new segment dedicated to performance within Van Rysel bikes. And the Northern firm specifies that endurance is not antithetical to speed. This was precisely the entire challenge for the design team.

The EDR CF frame is presented as “an ideal answer for all competitors looking for a bike equally at home in high mountains and mixed terrain”. Its combination of stiffness, lightness, and comfort promises nothing less than to “break your old records beyond measure”.

At 890 grams (raw in size M), the new Van Rysel EDR CF frame and its fork form a cocktail of high-modulus fibers to offer excellent stiffness to the bike, at the slightest acceleration. The fiber orientation has been calculated to satisfy the most demanding climbers and riders on hilly and high mountain courses. With a requirement meeting that sought by high-level and professional peloton.

The new Van Rysel EDR CF features a Press-fit 86 bottom bracket shell and a Di2-compatible frame. The frame accepts tire widths up to a maximum of 30 mm. And it retains the choice of rim or disc braking.

Van Rysel thus wishes to offer both braking systems to meet everyone’s preferences. Eight build configurations make up the 2021 range of the new Van Rysel EDR CF. With prices ranging from 1,750 € for a Campagnolo Centaur rim-brake version, to 4,050 € for a Shimano Dura-Ace build (still rim-brake). A specific EDR CF 105 Women version will be available, with a build, positioning elements, and specific components to meet female morphology (such as the specific Van Rysel women’s saddle).

Note that the new EDR CF will be offered for direct sale for rim-brake versions and for pre-order for disc-brake versions starting this Saturday, February 6, 2021. Delivery of pre-orders will take place from May 17, 2021, for men’s models, and from July 1, 2021, for the women’s model. And it benefits from a 5-year warranty on the frame and 2 years on spare parts.
