0% rubber, 100% recyclable
By partnering with the chemical group BASF, Schwalbe has developed Aerothan. A material made from thermoplastic polyester-polyurethane, without any rubber and therefore fully recyclable. After numerous laboratory and field tests, carried out by cyclists of all disciplines, Aerothan manages to equal classic butyl or latex inner tubes with good pressure retention, and to surpass them in terms of weight with ultra-light inner tubes and greater puncture resistance. And for greater durability, the machining process has been revised: the valve is laser-welded.
The ally for all disciplines: road, off-road, touring
Schwalbe has developed its Aerothan inner tube so that every cyclist can easily find the model suited to their practice:
- MTB for mountain biking, which guarantees stability even at low pressure.
- Race for road cycling, which benefits from 100 grams less weight.
- Allround for trekking bikes, which provides effective puncture protection.
Lightweight and puncture-resistant
The Aerothan inner tube stands out mainly for:
- Its reduced weight. It is 40% lighter than other Schwalbe inner tubes: 41 grams for the road version, 61 grams for the Allround version, and 81 grams for the off-road version.
- Its puncture resistance. In case of gravel insertion, for example, air escapes twice as slowly as with another material, preventing the inner tube from bursting suddenly.
It also offers significant resistance to extreme heat and wear, while providing good damping, unique tensile strength, and minimal rolling resistance.
