The association “Mon vélo est une vie” (My bike is a life) announces the creation of a legal commission whose purpose will be to inform, support, and assist victims and their families with administrative and legal procedures following a road accident. So that cyclists are no longer forgotten on the road.
Today, the “Mon vélo est une vie” association is launching its next battle to achieve all its demands, namely “a reminder of the adapted and exemplary scales of penalties provided for by law for endangering others and the application of these penalties by the police and the courts.”
To this end, it has created a “legal commission” within its association, chaired by Maître Michel Benezra, whose firm was established 15 years ago, with a department dedicated exclusively to cyclists who are victims of road accidents. The purpose of this commission will be to inform, support, and assist victims and their families with administrative and legal procedures following a road accident.
This commission will be able to very quickly, as “Mon vélo est une vie” wishes, constitute itself on behalf of the association as a civil party before the courts alongside cyclist victims of road accidents or their relatives in the most serious cases.
As of today, the “Mon Vélo Est Une Vie” #MVEUV association now has solid means to enforce legislation in favor of cyclists, and this is a first in France.

The Origin
The “Mon vélo est une vie” association was born on May 26, 2017, following the tragic accident of Grégoire Somogyi. This death was one too many. The association decided to alert public authorities to the danger of cycling, whether in rural areas or in the city.
On June 17, 2017, it organized a rally in Paris, Place de la Bastille, and at the same time, in a decentralized manner, in several French regions.
What was the initial objective?
The objective was to make its five proposals heard:
– The generalization of cycling facilities in all territories, urban and rural. The consideration of cycling in all road developments.
– Cycling education from an early age, and the integration of cycling into the motor vehicle driving license, for better consideration of cyclists.
– More communication and reminder signage on the need for road sharing, and speed moderation to allow for this sharing.
– National prevention campaigns to raise awareness among all users.
– A reminder of the adapted and exemplary scales of penalties provided for by law.
