The ELEMNT RIVAL multisport GPS watch, unveiled today by Wahoo, brings all the functionality and intuitiveness that make Wahoo products successful to triathletes and runners. Powered by technology unique to the ELEMNT range, known for its unique multisport features, the RIVAL radically simplifies the collection of sports data, allowing athletes to focus fully on performance without worrying about how their accessories work.

“The real magic of Rival is using everything that has been done for cyclists since 2016 on ELEMNT bike computers to create a parallel product for triathletes and runners,” explains Chip Hawkins, Wahoo founder. “One of the main goals in developing this watch was to offer an accessory whose design would match its performance. It’s a stylish, high-performance multisport watch that will suit any athlete looking for a lightweight GPS watch with incredible battery life, capable of tracking the longest races.”

When it comes to GPS accessories, ELEMNT RIVAL innovates in how it collects data and tracks an athlete through the different stages of their race. The “Touchless Transition” technology, developed especially for RIVAL, allows users to seamlessly switch from swimming to cycling to running without touching their watch.

The RIVAL is perfectly integrated into the Wahoo ecosystem. Its multisport transfer mode allows it to interact with ELEMNT GPS bike computers to transfer race data from the watch to a handlebar-mounted computer during the cycling leg of a triathlon, for example. Race data is thus always easy to see, easy to track, and correctly captured so that athletes can focus on their race.

Priced at 379.99 euros, the RIVAL integrates several advanced features, such as a ceramic bezel and an ambient light sensor that automatically adjusts the backlight. Other specific features include a battery lasting 14 days in watch mode or 24 hours in GPS mode, a barometric altimeter, an optical heart rate sensor, and live tracking.

To track workouts, data is available in the Wahoo Companion app and can be automatically uploaded to third-party platforms such as TrainingPeaks and Strava. RIVAL also connects to ANT+ and Bluetooth sensors and can control Wahoo KICKR smart indoor trainers.

The RIVAL is already being used by some of the world’s best triathletes, such as Heather Jackson, American Ironman world record holder: “I won a race by simply being faster in transition than the girl who came in second. So for me, having a device that can simply track you as you swim, bike, run through transitions – opens up new perspectives for gaining precious seconds.”

And also, Jan Frodeno, Ironman World Champion: “One of the biggest challenges in professional sport is to be able to focus on yourself. There’s so much noise during a race that ideally I want to forget about my technical equipment. I really want to be able to focus one hundred percent on myself. And being able to forget about my smart watch is great, it’s one less thing I have to think about!”
