New LOOK 795 BLADE RS: the 2021 range

LOOK unveils the new version of its aero and lightweight 795 BLADE RS bike. Thanks to a cutting-edge manufacturing process and carbon composition, the new 795 BLADE RS is lighter (1 kg for the frame in size M), making for an even more high-performance and versatile bike. The French brand today unveiled the new version of its flagship model, the 795 BLADE RS. Considered one of the best high-performance road bikes for its handling, comfort, and aerodynamic qualities, LOOK announces that it has pushed the limits of technology to create an ultralight frame of record weight. The 795 BLADE RS is the fastest and most versatile road bike LOOK has ever designed.

The new 795 BLADE RS frame weighs 300g less than its predecessor, at just 1kg (size M, painted), but it retains its stiffness and aerodynamic performance. This significant reduction was achieved through a new manufacturing process and a new carbon composition.

Thanks to the use of even higher modulus fibers, the proportion of High Modulus fiber has simply doubled (from 32% to 63%), the stiffness of the tubes is achieved more quickly, and the number of plies can be reduced, thus decreasing the tube thickness and frame weight.

This reduces the number of layers needed to create stiffness, thus minimizing tube thickness and frame weight. This ultralight weight does not compromise stiffness, as very high modulus fiber has been placed at 4% in the most strategic areas to maintain stiffness.

The lightness of the 795 BLADE RS was also achieved through the application of EPS (expanded polystyrene) technology to the frame. Rather than having a single mold for each frame size, the EPS process requires two molds: one for the external shape of the frame and one for the internal shape. A layer of carbon fiber fabric is then draped over a hard polystyrene mold before being removed, which eliminates wrinkles, porosities, and weak areas in the carbon. More expensive than the traditional frame manufacturing method, LOOK uses EPS only for its highest-end bike models, such as the 765 GRAVEL RS.

From its frame to its components, the 795 BLADE RS is undoubtedly LOOK’s most high-performance road bike to date. Subjected to wind tunnel tests, LOOK has added the latest innovations to its high-end version – such as the SRAM RED ETAP AXS DISC groupset and CORIMA 47mm WS Black DX wheels – so that every cyclist can achieve these important marginal gains.

The “3S Design” chainstays of the 795 BLADE RS DISC are designed for maximum efficiency. The absence of a caliper between them, as well as their curved shape, allows for flex under the force transmitted by the rear hub. The rear hub remains in constant contact with the road, ensuring optimal power transfer as well as increased grip and control.

To go fast, you also need fast braking power: that’s why all complete bikes come standard with disc brakes, although the frame can be purchased as a rim-brake model. Disc brakes provide an increased sense of safety and control on descents and in corners, but they also have the advantage of allowing wider rims and tires to be fitted to the bike. The 795 BLADE RS accepts tires up to 30mm wide.

The 795 BLADE RS DISC is designed for easy maintenance and integrates cables into the frame. It is compatible with both mechanical and electronic groupsets, for both disc brake and rim brake frames. The 795 BLADE RS DISC is equipped with an aluminum Pressfit BB386 bottom bracket shell. The insertion of an aluminum guide into the frame ensures impeccable bottom bracket alignment and optimized Pressfit tolerances.

A further step is taken thanks to the close collaboration with TOKEN PRODUCTS to deliver each 795 BLADE RS DISC with a PressFit bottom bracket and appropriate tools. TOKEN PRODUCTS’ Ninja threaded bottom bracket bodies are made of aluminum, while the PressFit areas are a PA+FIBER combination. This guarantees the strength of the bottom bracket, optimal alignment, and silent, friction-free rotation. This assembly is designed as a homogeneous and high-performance unit, offering the cyclist the fastest, quietest, and most reliable components possible.

For those who want the performance of a 795 BLADE RS but at an affordable price, LOOK has made its in-house design and manufacturing accessible to a wider range of cyclists with the 795 BLADE range. Composed of four disc brake bikes equipped with Shimano components, LOOK AEROPOST 2 carbon seatposts, and for some models, the new LOOK R38 D wheelset, the 795 BLADE offers a fast and responsive ride.
