TRIATHLON – Hamburg 2020 World Championship: Cassandre Beaugrand and the Frenchwomen far from the title

Less than an hour after Vincent Luis’s world championship title and Léo Bergère’s 3rd place, the French triathlon women’s team also had their appointment for the 2020 World Championship under more gloomy weather. Ten minutes of downpour just before the start made the road very wet and perilous for cycling…

In swimming, Cassandre Beaugrand ideally positioned herself in the wake of British Jessica Learmonth. A leading duo thus emerged from the water with a good transition and a very strong start on the bike. Emilie Morier was the 2nd Frenchwoman to exit transition in 13th position, 9 seconds behind the leaders, while Léonie Périault was 23rd, 16 seconds back.

Things got complicated on the cycling leg. Cassandre’s fate was sealed by a fall in the first kilometers, caught out by the slippery tape. The Frenchwoman immediately recovered and rejoined the race but lost too many precious seconds to catch up with the lead group. She managed to slip into the chase group alongside Léonie Périault. Emilie Morier fell behind and found herself further back.
