When the “long” summer holidays arrive, the question often arises of how to adapt your sports practice… Total rest? Diversify? Discover? Improvise? Intensify? Relax? Stop? Adapt? Prepare for a back-to-school goal? Or an end-of-year goal? Here are various ways to occupy your summer, without feeling guilty.

There are plenty of possibilities, but the goal, the only true goal, is above all to maintain your well-being and make this life what you please! Let’s examine the different possibilities under the microscope and choose the one that suits you best, at least for this summer…
Total rest
There are those who only play sports on vacation and those who do it all the rest of the year. And for those who do it all year round, it might be time to take a break. Not easy! Yet the benefits are multiple. It allows you to recharge your batteries physically and psychologically. It helps to avoid injuries and to come back even more motivated. No need to panic either! When you play sports 300 days a year, three weeks without activity not only allows you to recharge your batteries but also to assimilate and potentialize all the work of the year. You’ll just need to take the time to readjust when it’s time to tighten your toe clips again.
Discover other sports
Summer rhymes with opportunities. And opportunities rhyme with new activities. Summer is therefore an opportunity to turn to activities you don’t know or don’t take the time to do the rest of the year: windsurfing, paddleboarding, tennis, canoeing, beach volleyball, hiking, flyjumping, rafting, in short, anything that comes to mind. This period is a dream situation to let yourself be tempted by novelty. Do different things and give yourself the pleasure of discovering what can motivate you and what will be impossible to do once the holidays are over. And then, the benefit of diversifying so much is multiple: it allows you to vary the pleasures, not to get bored, to stay motivated but also to preserve the strong desire to get back on the bike.
No plan: summer is also for improvising
You have to learn to let go. Put aside the rigidity of a structured plan. Let improvisation guide you. And even better, let yourself be led by what you most want at the moment. You can even try riding without a Garmin and coming back whenever you feel like it.
Prepare for a back-to-school event
For most outdoor sports involving a bike, there are two windows of intense activity during the year. The period before summer and back-to-school. September is thus the month of the year with the most races scheduled in the calendars. So the summer holidays are an excellent opportunity to prepare for them. In summer, you have more time, so these holidays can be a good time to prepare or at least start preparing for a back-to-school goal. This is, most of the time, the most suitable period of the year to enjoy training. The best thing is perhaps to go out early in the morning to better enjoy the rest of the day.
Combine sports activities and sightseeing
What if you visited the coast or the city of your holiday destination by bicycle? And even more original, what if you learned to row to navigate for hours and hours on the river? Or more simply, since it’s about doing something other than riding, what if you took the opportunity to serendipitously discover the wonders of the country by running (gently)?

Think about your health
In conclusion, enjoying your summer thus and above all rhymes with serenity. The goal, with or without activities, is just to take care of yourself. Not complicated! You have to enjoy yourself without ever neglecting the consequences on your health.
