Some of you may have already noticed in recent weeks the appearance of a laurel wreath on your account after a ride…Strava, the number one subscription service for athletes, has launched a new way to compete on segments, with the new Local Legends feature.
Local Legends celebrates consistency, discipline, and passion. To become a Local Legend and earn the laurel wreath, athletes must make the most efforts on the same segment over 90 days.
This 90-day period is a rolling window, calculated from the current day. The path to becoming a Local Legend therefore changes every day, with efforts older than 90 days expiring to the benefit of efforts from the current day. Athletes will therefore have to regularly defend their crown if they want to keep it.
The vast majority of existing segments are taken into account for Local Legends. Strava athletes can easily locate them using the segment explorer on the mobile app.
Athletes can also view their ranking on a segment by going to the detailed section of the segment page. This will allow them to see the total number of their efforts, those of the Local Legend, as well as a diagram of all athletes competing for the laurel wreath. This diagram indicates the number of efforts required to dethrone the Local Legend.
Made accessible to athletes in certain regions of the United States, particularly in Strava’s home states of California and Colorado, Local Legends is now available on the Strava mobile app in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Japan, and Brazil.
Access to Local Legends in the rest of the world as well as the desktop version are being finalized. The rules and segments concerned by the Local Legends rankings may evolve. Indeed, Strava will continue to improve this new feature thanks to feedback from its athletes. To access it, simply download Strava for iOS or Android, and subscribe to customize your experience and enjoy all the features.
