TRIATHLON – Venice-Jesolo, a new Ironman race in Italy in 2021

IRONMAN today announced the opening of a fourth race in Italy in 2021, the IRONMAN 70.3 Venice-Jesolo. The first edition will take place on May 2, 2021 and will join the three existing IRONMAN events in Italy: IRONMAN Italy, Emilia-Romagna (September 19, 2020 – sold out), IRONMAN 70.3 Italy, Emilia-Romagna (September 20, 2020 – sold out) and IRONMAN 70.3 Sardegna (October 25, 2020 – sold out).

Located 18 km northeast of its famous neighbor Venice or “La Serenissima”, Jesolo is today one of the most popular tourist destinations in Italy and Central Europe. With a history dating back more than 1,500 years, Jesolo boasts large beaches and a natural lagoon dominated by the famous lighthouse located at Jesolo Beach or Lido di Jesolo. The race site is easily accessible by car and train and is located just 30 minutes from Venice Marco Polo International Airport and 40 minutes from Treviso International Airport.

Starting from the popular Lido di Jesolo, athletes will begin with a 1.9 km one-loop swim in the Adriatic Sea. With the lighthouse as a backdrop, athletes will get a true feel for the destination from the start before exploring deeper into the Veneto region by bike.

Athletes will enjoy a 90.1 km bike course, where they will discover charming places that highlight the beauty of the Veneto region. Crossing the northern and southern expanses of Jesolo, the course will take athletes on both sides of the Sile River. After crossing the Sile, the course heads south towards Venice and Punta Sabbioni where athletes will ride along the Venice lagoon before returning north towards Lido di Jesolo to transition to the run.

The 21.1 km run course consists of two loops, crossing the Jesolo promenade for a magnificent coastal route along one of Europe’s longest pedestrian roads. An ideal hotspot for supporters as the promenade not only offers views of the Adriatic, but also allows athletes to enjoy the cheers of their supporters all the way to the finish line on Lighthouse Beach.

The IRONMAN 70.3 Venice-Jesolo 2020 triathlon will offer qualifying slots for the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship 2021 in St. George, Utah, USA.
