Extended gear range on the Sram Force AXS groupset, with a new cassette and new chainrings

Sram now offers new gearing options for the Force eTap AXS groupset, with the introduction of a 43-30 chainring combination and a 10-36 cassette.

Introduced a year ago and featured on many mid-to-high-end bikes, the 12-speed Sram Force eTap AXS groupset previously offered two chainring combinations: 48-35 and 46-33 (while the high-end Red groupset also had a 50-37). Aimed at a wider audience and more versatile bikes for gravel, long distances, or adventure in general, the Force now adds a third combination, but with even smaller 43-30 chainrings.

To the three 12-speed cassettes offered (10-26, 10-28, and 10-33), Sram adds a new 10-36, with the following cogs: 10,11,12,13,15,17,19,21,24,28,32,36.

These 43-30 front and 10-36 rear combinations now offer a wide gear range of 516%, perfectly suited for the steepest climbs, especially off-road, with a smallest gear equivalent, for example, to the 42/50 tested on the Specialized Diverge S-Works with a single chainring, but of course with fewer gaps in the range thanks to the two chainrings.

To be adapted to the tooth counts and also to the bikes they are intended for, the two derailleurs and the crankset also evolve slightly. The rear derailleur (wireless and operated by impulses on the levers) features a larger derailleur cage to handle the large 36-tooth cog.

The 43-30 crankset sees its chainline slightly adjusted to accommodate wider tires, 700x45c or 27.5×2.1 inches.

The front derailleur is also offered in a specific version, only for this crankset with the offset chainline and for the same tire clearance.
