Lazer Genesis Helmet Review

The lightest model developed by Lazer, weighing 209g in size M, the Genesis helmet ensures minimal bulk and perfect ventilation. Once in place, it’s forgotten, and it also offers versatility for various riding conditions, with the possibility of upgrading it thanks to a clever removable shell. More ventilated or more aero: the Genesis gives you the choice, to provide a feeling of maximum efficiency according to your desires and the weather.

Placed in the ultra-light category, the Lazer Genesis is forgotten once on.

At the top of the Lazer helmet range, used in competition (along with the Lazer Z1 and Bullet models) by professional riders like Primoz Roglic, Tom Dumoulin, or Mathieu Van der Poel, the Lazer Genesis helmet is a model designed for performance. It aims to provide a feeling of minimal bulk and allow the head and mind to focus as much as possible on the effort. At 209g in size M on our scale, the Lazer Genesis is the lightest model developed by Lazer.

209g in size M on our scale! The Lazer Genesis is the lightest helmet in the history of the Belgian company.

Adjustment precision, feeling of freedom

Once on our head, the Genesis adapts perfectly to the skull thanks to an Advanced Rollsys adjustment system located on the top of the helmet (and not at the occipital area as is often the case on most models on the market). Compatible with ponytails, the Lazer Advanced Rollsys system offers precise horizontal and vertical adjustment, allowing the Lazer Genesis to guarantee simple and easy-to-access adjustment as well as meticulous precision. The light, flat straps are easily positioned and adjusted, as is the buckle. And we quickly perceive that it’s the type of product whose presence on the head is quickly forgotten.

The Lazer Genesis relies on an Advanced Rollsys adjustment system located on the top of the helmet, combining ease of use and precision.

Ventilated or aerodynamic?

Even at a standstill before setting off, we already appreciate the great lightness and the feeling of optimal ventilation thanks to its 23 ventilation holes and the articulation of the internal cavities that promote airflow. And we tell ourselves that the clever removable Aeroshell cover, included, must be very useful to combat certain elements during rainy, windy, and cold rides. Because while it improves the product’s aerodynamics for better air penetration, the shell also proves very useful for limiting the entry of cold or water. Solid but thin enough not to affect the overall lightness, we advise you to be careful when handling it to remove or install it because its edges are quite sharp. Note that it adds about forty grams to the whole when installed, which remains imperceptible or does not modify the bulk of the model in practice. Its installation is quick and easy, and its attachment is very solid so that it doesn’t budge during effort.

The Aeroshell cover allows the Lazer Genesis to go from a hyper-ventilated helmet to a fully “aero” model, optimized to promote air penetration.

Comfort matching efficiency

While the emphasis is on the product’s efficiency and performance for the user, the Lazer Genesis helmet obviously does not forget comfort, which is essential to feel free and perform well. The helmet has two types of pads: “Race or Comfort,” to offer the rider the option according to their profile, type of practice, and cranial morphology. In this area, the set of four “Comfort” internal pads is very appreciable and adds another asset to the model, making it very comfortable during effort for a product with a minimized design and “stature.” They offer easy maintenance, with quick washing practical in lukewarm water and soap preferably to preserve their technicality and precious support.

Safety and performance in all seasons

Tested in competition since October and the end of the 2019 season in good temperatures, but also in the off-season in the coolness of November/December/January, both in the woods and on the road, we have covered the wide possibilities of using the Genesis with great satisfaction. This Super Light category helmet seduces with the high-level combination of efficiency it offers and its versatility of use: a lightness that tends to make it forgotten, a solid, precise, and easy adjustment, maximum ventilation ideal for optimized head cooling, or a more closed aerodynamic profile to protect oneself.

Whether to fight against the elements, the entry of fresh air, and the projection of dirt, the removable Aeroshell cover seduces with the versatility it offers the model and its great efficiency.

Very comfortable in action and over time, we also appreciate its perfect hold and the feeling of safety it provides, despite its lines and its rather reduced profile to limit its weight. The Lazer Genesis helmet combines a condensed set of optimized features that places it among the most accomplished models on the market, designed for those seeking a high level of performance and efficiency.

Despite a contained profile that limits the feeling of bulk, the Lazer Genesis provides a great feeling of support and safety.

Its refined and reduced aesthetic, which gives it very beautiful lines and a very contained profile, is another argument that seduced us. As with our previous Lazer Century helmet review, the front of the helmet and the sides may seem more massive, robust, but they do not cause any particular discomfort in practice, for a model that combines sobriety and elegance on a face (here in its black color).

The Lazer Genesis is available in seven colors, in two versions with or without the MIPS system.

Seven colors, with or without MIPS system

Available in a version integrating a MIPS safety reinforcement system or classic, the Lazer Genesis helmet is available in six colors (five for the MIPS version), to play the harmony card with multiple outfits. Developed with the support and feedback of the professional teams with which Lazer is a partner (Team Jumbo-Visma, Team Sunweb, Alpecin-Fenix), the Lazer Genesis is a helmet primarily oriented for competition, but it is also suitable, thanks to its multiple facets, for less intensive sports profiles who want an aesthetic, very light, and very comfortable model. The Lazer Genesis is sold at a recommended retail price of €219.90 (€239.95 for the MIPS version, to which must be added the twenty grams of the system), and it benefits from the Lazer replacement program in case of an accident and a 30-day money-back guarantee (see conditions and terms on the Lazer website). The price to afford the helmet of a cyclocross world champion like Mathieu Van der Poel or a Vuelta winner like Primoz Roglic, the lightest in the history of the iconic Belgian company.
