Review of the Aqua Sphere Vista Pro Triathlon Swimming Goggles

With its extra-wide skirt and panoramic lens, the Aqua Sphere Vista Pro stands out as something of a novelty in the market for swimming and triathlon goggles and masks. Its effectiveness in terms of support, watertightness, fit, and vision ensures a high level of overall comfort during use. A definite asset for performance and peace of mind in long-distance triathlons.

Founded in 1998 in Genoa, Italy, the Aqua Sphere brand set out on a mission to create the most comfortable swim goggles possible. That year, Paolo Ferraro, president of Technisub (a diving brand owned by the Aqua Lung group), and Giovani Beltranit noticed issues with fit and watertightness in the swim goggles of the time. As experts in scuba diving gear, the two men decided to adapt their sealing technology—usually reserved for diving masks—to the world of swimming and created the first “swim mask”: the Seal. This innovation brought the Aqua Sphere brand global recognition and gained particular traction in the triathlon community. Today, the brand offers a complete line of swimsuits, wetsuits, goggles, and accessories for swimmers, triathletes, and whitewater enthusiasts.

European Raw Materials and Manufacturing

Since the products are constantly in contact with water, they must meet four key requirements: waterproofing, visibility, comfort, and support. To meet these standards, Aqua Sphere uses high-quality raw materials sourced exclusively from Europe, notably France, Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. The goggles are manufactured in the brand’s European facilities in Genoa, ensuring traceability and exemplary quality control over the finished product.

The brand’s swim goggle lineup includes the Seal 2—an evolution of the original Seal, available with clear or tinted lenses—the Seal XP2, crafted from Exo Core, and the Vista, featuring a wide, comfortable silicone skirt. In recent weeks, this lineup has been expanded to include the Vista Pro, the Vista’s younger sibling, which stands out in particular for its single lens made of sturdy polycarbonate and treated with an anti-fog coating (for all available lenses) and an anti-scratch coating (mirrored version only). It offers a distortion-free 180° panoramic view thanks to its curvature and streamlined frame. This mask also provides maximum comfort thanks to its integrated skirt, which offers excellent leak resistance, complemented by a Quick-Fit buckle for quick and easy adjustment.

A large skirt

How could you not notice it! When you hold it in your hands, you immediately appreciate the beautiful, wide lens—in our case, the mirrored version—but you can’t help but notice the extra-wide silicone skirt that surrounds it. And when viewed from the inside, as in the photo above, it’s even more impressive. Very flexible, the silicone is widest right under the eyes—a sensitive area where water tends to seep in. Its design is highly ergonomic to fit all face shapes.

On the forehead, you’ll also notice that the silicone is quite wide. It also features the same curvature as the bridge of the frame to adapt as closely as possible to the shape of your forehead. A few gentle presses with your fingers show that it’s not stiff at all, ensuring comfort during physical activity.

Once in place, you feel a secure fit across a very large portion of your face. The feel is much more like that of a goggle than a pair of traditional glasses. The silicone extends to the middle of the forehead, around the temples, and extends well below the eyes to prevent water from entering. In terms of vision, however, it feels like wearing a pair of single-lens, panoramic goggles. The fit is perfect. Once in place, it’s impossible to move the mask or for it to slip on its own. After several dives, it never shifted position or rode up. The “suction cup” effect of the skirt plays a big part in this. We haven’t tested it during a triathlon start, but we can safely say that the Vista Pro is certainly a formidable asset in the “big washing machine”: we have a hard time imagining it shifting position despite the blows you might take, given how firmly it grips the face.

At the back, the silicone retention strap splits into two branches, offering even more stability as well as greater comfort by distributing the pressure evenly across the back of the head.

On the side, the silicone strap features numerous adjustment notches (every 2.5 mm) to optimize the fit. Once the Vista Pro is in place, simply pull the tabs on each side to tighten it—no other effort is required. This system is very easy to use; it offers no resistance, and you gradually feel the skirt’s pressure against your face. In our opinion, thanks to the skirt’s suction effect, there’s no need to over-tighten it—otherwise, you risk feeling strong pressure, particularly on your forehead. You then lock the strap into its slot so it stays in place and doesn’t interfere with head movements. For even greater ergonomics and comfort, Aqua Sphere has added a swivel buckle that adapts to the shape of your face. This is convenient since this mask is only available in one size.

If you’ve tightened it too much, a small gray button located under each swivel buckle lets you release the tension. The strap immediately moves back several notches. This makes adjusting the Vista Pro very quick and easy. No time wasted before swimming, no risk of getting frustrated with a knot or threading the strap through a buckle, and no stress if you need to adjust the fit in the final seconds before a start. It’s truly well-designed and effective.

With this panoramic lens, the 180° field of view is excellent. This mirrored lens makes colors appear bluer than in reality, but other lenses are available to suit weather conditions or your preferences (see the technical specifications below). Underwater, the environment appears even bluer than in real life, but the contrasts remain sharp. Vision is clear and unobstructed. Not a single drop of water entered the mask, despite testing the fit at several different tightness levels. We never had to lift the mask to equalize pressure, as is often the case with conventional goggles. Furthermore, we felt no discomfort around the eyes, unlike with some goggle designs that can sometimes become painful after 45 minutes of activity. In summary, there’s a feeling of great overall comfort—both in terms of fit and vision—and the silicone skirt is highly effective at keeping water out. With your nose outside the mask, you feel free and not confined, as is often the case with traditional masks. To us, the Vista Pro feels almost like a natural extension of the body in this aquatic environment—which is not the human’s natural habitat—rather than just another accessory added to the gear of the perfect swimmer or triathlete.

As you can see, we were very pleasantly surprised by the qualities of this Aqua Sphere Vista Pro mask. At first glance, the extra-wide skirt may seem off-putting to some, but its effectiveness in terms of fit, comfort, and watertightness is undeniable. Add to that a great fit thanks to the adjustment system and a beautiful panoramic view provided by the single lens, and you have an ideal product for long, comfortable swimming sessions, whether in a pool or open water. Long-distance triathletes won’t go wrong investing 60 euros in the Vista Pro. It’s certainly more expensive than most traditional goggles, but the guaranteed comfort and watertight seal are two important and reassuring factors as you approach a mass start.
