The privilege of national, world, and Olympic champions, the conquest of a title has for years been accompanied by a personalization of their work tools… for a week now, Mads Pedersen’s life as a racer has changed. New outfit, new equipment, and of course a new bike worthy of his gold medal and in the colors of the most beautiful jersey!

Impossible to go unnoticed in a peloton in this outfit!

On the occasion of his return to competition at the Tour de l’Eurométropole, which the Dane abandoned, surely exhausted by the celebration of his title and an emotionally rich week, Mads Pedersen therefore rode a new Trek Madone, custom painted by the American brand to honor its champion.

Custom paint, choice and application of decals and personalized touches on the frame… all the steps in customizing a frame.

The Trek teams have been working for a week to design and produce this special edition. Brian Lindstrom, the firm’s artistic director, Micah Moran, the lead product graphic designer, and product designer Kyle Doney worked at Trek’s Project One custom paint facility in Waterloo, Wisconsin. “Mads’ victory was an incredible feat,” rejoiced Brian Lindstrom, the firm’s artistic director. “With this custom bike, we wanted to honor the new champion, while respecting the Madone’s DNA, maintaining a clean, simple, and elegant design.”

Seen from here, that’s a lot of graphics to arrange on the frame! Watchwords: finesse and style, so as not to overload the machine.

Custom paint, decals with nods to the rider and his personality… Mads Pedersen’s new bike is based on a Madone SLR, the most advanced in the Madone range, and processed in the labs of the Trek Project One paint facility. Mads Pedersen’s SLR features a pure white base combined with the five colors of the rainbow jersey distributed over the top tube, head tube, and fork crown.

Once painted and decaled, the frame will only need to be dressed with components.

The first mission for the Trek teams once the roadmap was determined: the meticulous placement of stencils on the frame to determine the location of the colored bands/parts.

The paint can then be applied, with the classic and necessary phases and drying times to allow it to set without bleeding. Before the traditional varnishing.

Once the frame is painted, dried, and varnished, the next step can begin with the arrangement of the graphic prints. Those of the Trek Segafredo team’s partners…

… and especially the nods to Mads Pedersen’s personality and temperament: a year, a day, a place, engraved for life, and affixed to the top of the down tube. “Underdog” on the other side. His nickname, literally the outsider, which the Dane took care to cross out, indicating last week that he was done with it! We also find details such as the distances, initial and shortened, of the 2019 World Championships in Yorkshire.

Once painted, decaled, and dried, the assembly of the Trek Madone SLR can begin. Mads Pedersen’s new bike is based on a Madone SLR frame, made of OCLV 700 Series carbon (with Kammtail Virtual Foil aerodynamic tube shape, an adjustable IsoSpeed decoupler on the top tube eliminating vibrations, and a full carbon KVF fork). Mads Pedersen’s Madone SLR is equipped with the latest SRAM Red eTap AXS 12-speed wireless drivetrain, from the American team’s technical partner. We note here that the Danish rider also opts for a SRAM Red double chainring crankset 53×39, instead of the AXS single chainring crankset with 50 teeth (for a maximum gear combination of 53×10). In terms of components, it features a series of high-end equipment from the American designer: a Bontrager XXX VR-C handlebar (€349.99) coupled with a Bontrager XXX Blendr stem (€249.99), as well as a Bontrager Aeolus XXX Carbon saddle (€379.99) mounted on a Madone micro-adjustable seatpost. The Madone SLR here rests on Bontrager Aeolus XXX 6 Disc tubular wheels (€1,074.99 to €1,324.99). No Replica version, price, or weight indicated for the new world champion’s bike. But know that the consumer version sold on the Trek website of a Madone SLR Disc eTap costs €12,599. The price here for a professional’s “rocket”!

The placement of his name as the ultimate symbol of the champion’s privilege. Once painted, assembled, adjusted… Mads Pedersen only has to savor the discovery of his new precious object! The Dane is expected to conclude his year in Italy, at the Tre Valli Varesine and then Milan – Turin, on October 8 and 9.
