The Étape du Tour 2020 has just been unveiled: for the first time in 30 editions, it will be a loop course. The 16,000 amateur cyclists expected will tackle the route of the second stage of the Tour de France on July 5 around Nice, covering 177 km.
With logistics undoubtedly simpler for most participants, the Étape du Tour 2020 should be a sell-out. For the first time, the event will take place as a loop with a start and finish in Nice, the city that will also host the Grand Départ of the Tour on June 27 and 28.
One week after the pros, amateur cyclists will thus be able to tackle a difficult course, with 3570 m of elevation gain and especially 177 km to cover between sea and mountains.
On the program, three beautiful climbs:
- The Col de la Colmiane (81st km – 1503 m) with 16.3 km at an average of 6.3% for a total elevation gain of 1000 m (maximum gradient of 9%).
- The Col du Turini (108th km – 1604 m) with 14.9 km at an average of 7.4% for a total elevation gain of 1100 m (maximum gradient of 9%).
- The Col d’Eze (165th km – 490 m) with 7.8 km at an average of 6.1% for a total elevation gain of 470 m (maximum gradient of 10%).
