After Jessica Fullagar’s excellent bronze medal this morning at 8 am in the junior girls’ race, much was expected from the junior boys with the three French representatives: Paul Georgenthum (2018 vice-world champion), Boris Pierre (4th in 2018), and Guillaume Hay.

After the 750 m swim, the three French athletes exited at the back of the group. Fortunately, no breakaways occurred during the first transition, and a large pack of 45 athletes set off for the 20 km bike leg.
At T2, the peloton was still grouped, and everyone would have to battle it out on foot. At the end of the first of two laps, Boris Pierre was setting the pace. Paul Georgenthum followed a few meters behind, while Guillaume Hay was distanced.
In the end, Portugal's Ricardo Batista became the 2019 junior world champion, ahead of Australia's Lorcan Redmond and Spain's Sergio Baxter Cabrera. Our French athletes unfortunately finished just off the podium: Boris Pierre was 4th, as in 2018, and Paul Georgenthum was right behind in 5th place. Guillaume Hay finished in 36th place.

Next up at 12 pm are the U23 Women, with two French athletes competing: Émilie Morier and Pauline Landron.
