TRIATHLON – WTS Hamburg: France shows up in force

France will be present with a strong delegation in Hamburg this weekend for the 6th stage of the World Triathlon Series with 4 men (Vincent Luis, Dorian Coninx, Léo Bergère and Pierre Le Corre) and 4 women (Cassandre Beaugrand, Léonie Périault, Sandra Dodet and Emilie Morier) at the start.

In the men’s race, Vincent Luis, Dorian Coninx, and Léo Bergère, currently 2nd, 10th, and 12th in the World Series respectively, will start their 5th WTS of the season after a necessary month-long break dedicated to recovery and training. Pierre Le Corre, meanwhile, is 20th with only two WTS under his belt (Bermuda, 6th, and Leeds, 8th). This stage promises to be particularly challenging and could hold many surprises. Indeed, since the beginning of the season, stages have followed one another with unprecedented victories such as those of Dorian Coninx in Yokohama, Jacob Birtwisthle (Aus) in Leeds, and Jelle Geens (Bel) in Montreal.

For Vincent Luis, the stakes are high as the Frenchman, absent from the Montreal WTS, has ceded his position as World Series leader to Spain’s Fernando Alarza. He will be keen to regain the top spot in the overall standings and distance himself from Javier Gomez, currently 3rd, in order to calmly prepare for the Tokyo Test Event in August. His three teammates are also motivated to raise their level in the overall standings.

As a reminder, last year, three Frenchmen finished in the Top 10 of the race (Luis 2nd, Coninx 6th, and Bergère 10th). Pierre Le Corre took 20th place.

In the women’s race, Cassandre Beaugrand, Léonie Périault, Sandra Dodet, and Emilie Morier will be at the start of this 6th stage of a circuit dominated by Americans and Britons.

Last year, Cassandre Beaugrand made a strong impression by winning her first victory on the world circuit at just 21 years old. This year, the Frenchwoman, despite the pressure from last year’s result, is optimistic because Hamburg is a race she particularly enjoys.

Léonie Périault, for her part, will be keen to take revenge for last year (DNF) and confirm the good result achieved at the Leeds WTS (6th).

Like their three male counterparts, the two Frenchwomen will start their 5th WTS of the season after skipping Montreal.

Emilie Morier and Sandra Dodet, meanwhile, are looking to gain experience at the highest international level. The two Frenchwomen had a very good start to the season, finishing 1st and 2nd respectively at the Madrid World Cup in May.

Program Saturday, July 6:
2 PM: women’s start
4:30 PM: men’s start.
