James Cunnama won the Nice Ironman today in 7:16:16. The South African triathlete caught up with Belgium’s Frederik Van Lierde halfway through the run, after the five-time winner of the event had been leading since exiting the water.
France’s Kévin Rundstadler took second place, while Van Lierde completed the podium of an event shortened by the organizers for safety reasons due to the high temperatures. The cycling portion was reduced from 180 km to 152 km, and the run from 42 km to 30 km (three laps on the Promenade des Anglais).
In the women’s race, Australia’s Carrie Lester dominated from start to finish (8:05:20), ahead of Belgium’s Tine Deckers and France’s Manon Genêt.
Congratulations to our collaborator Pierre-Maxime Branche, who also completed this legendary race. Pierre-Max finished 37th (category 35-40) in 9:13:10 (212th overall).
